The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has reunited 11 children with their families in Burundi after they were separated as a result of armed conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
ICRC in a post on its verified social media handle X ‘@ICRC’ said many people fleeing the conflict in the East of the DR Congo have lost track of family members.
“In Burundi, in one week, ICRC teams working with Burundi’s red cross reunited 11 children with their families and facilitated 1,026 calls, enabling separated loved ones to connect,” the post reads.

Meanwhile, the ICRC also said while acting as neutral party to any armed conflict globalky, it has taken part in the repatriation of human remains
In the post on X, the humanitarian body said “In our role as a neutral intermediary, we took part in the 60th repatriation of human remains since 2022. Each repatriation gives families the chance to lay their loved ones to rest with dignity”.
“We remain committed to supporting efforts that help bring closure to families”, the post also reads.
ICRC called on all parties to respect international humanitarian law and treatment of those arrested during the war with dignity and respect of human rights laws.
