Kano-based local radio station “Premier Radio 102.7FM Kano” has celebrated a major milestone after surpassing one million followers on its Facebook page in just four years.

The official Facebook page of the station, created on October 9, and the station itself, established in December 2021, have together contributed to making Premier Radio the fastest-growing radio station in Northern Nigeria to reach this landmark.

Premier Radio, a private broadcaster in Kano State — Nigeria’s most populous state after Lagos — commands a potential audience of more than 19 million people. Kano is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, with Hausa serving as the dominant language across the state.

The station, which airs hourly news bulletins, is widely recognised for its strong community engagement, daily sports updates (except Fridays), and a variety of entertainment programmes that appeal to diverse listeners.

Its digital department, Premier Digital Media, led by Abdurrashid Hussain with Suhaib Auwal as deputy, has also played a significant role in driving this rapid online growth.

Under the leadership of its Chairman, Malam Abba Dabo, Premier Radio remains committed to informing and engaging the public on key developments within local communities, across the state, the country, and beyond.

Abba Dabo, an administrator, politician, and seasoned journalist, previously worked with leading Nigerian newspapers including Sunday New Nigerian and Gaskiya Tafi Kwabo. He also served as Managing Director of Triumph Publishing Company Ltd., publishers of Triumph, Alfijir, and Albishir newspapers.

In 1983, he was appointed Chief Press Secretary to former President Alhaji Shehu Shagari. In 2012, former President Goodluck Jonathan also appointed him as Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters in the Office of the Vice President, a position he held for four years.

As Premier Radio continues to expand its reach, the station is positioning itself to further influence Nigeria’s media landscape and compete effectively with both national and international broadcasters.
