Kano Govt Trains SR, SSR for Efficiency

The Kano State Government, through the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, has launched a 4-day capacity-building training program for Senior Special Reporters (SSR) and Special Reporters (SR) for efficiency and better service delivery.

The training, which commenced on Monday, July 7, 2025, is being held at the Dangote Business School, Bayero University Kano (BUK) aimed to enhance the capacity of the reporters in promoting the activities of the state government.

The Facilitator, Professor Mai-nasara Kurfi has emphasized the importance of adhering to professional standards in reporting, including extracting news, filtering genuine information, and backing stories with facts and accurate data.

Professor Kurfi, highlighted that the Kano State Government’s efforts in providing access to digital information in both urban and rural communities is well commendable.

In his address, the director of the International Institute of Journalism, Dr. Eman Shehu, explained that the workshop would equip participants with the skills to identify fake news and improve the quality of their reportage.

During the training, the executive governor of Kano state Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf who was represented by Alh Abdullahi Musa, Kano State Head of Service, also urged trainees to apply the knowledge gained during the training in their daily work.

“I urged you to re-sprocate the gesture of what you have learned here in your day-to-day activities, so that the important and good work of his excellency the executive governor of Kano state Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf will be known to the good people of Kano state and Nigeria at large,” said Abdullahi Musa.

In his address also, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, cautioned participants to update their knowledge on digital media reporting, conducting ethical reporting procedures, and other relevant areas.

According to Waiya, the Kano State government has been committed to supporting journalists through training and capacity-building initiatives, recognizing the critical role of the media in driving economic growth and promoting good governance.

“This training is part of the government’s efforts to enhance professionalism in the media industry,” said Waiya.

Iliyasu Yusuf Muhammad Hotoro, a participant from the Ministry of Power, expressed gratitude to the Kano State Government for organizing the training and promised to apply the skills learned in his workplace.
