The workshop was convened under the framework of the Health Sector Renewal Compact and the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) initiative, which emphasizes “one plan, one budget, one report, and a common conversation.”

Nabilusi Abubakar Kofar Na’isa, the public relations officer of the ministry in a statement sent to GLOBAL TRACKER said the 2026 AOP is tailored to meet Kano State’s specific health needs and aligns with the Health Sector Strategic Blueprint (HSSB), the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII), and the HOPE Project.

Notable participants included the state Commissioner for Health, represented by the Director General, Kano state primary healthcare management board (SPHCMB); the Deputy Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly; the Chairman House Committee on Health, represented by the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation; the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health; Heads of MDAs (PHIMA, HMB, PHCMB, KSACA, KHETFUND, KSCHMA, DMCSA, and KNCDC); representatives of Civil Society Organizations; and development partners including FCDO Lafiya, WHO, UNICEF, and SANDHDEF.

During the workshop, participants finalized intervention indicators, reviewed draft AOP activities, identified overlaps, and ensured alignment across MDAs and partners.

A key outcome was the harmonization of MDA-level AOPs into a consolidated State-level 2026 AOP, supported by a committee to track performance against Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs).

Key resolutions reached include:
Engaging additional funding sources to bridge identified gaps. Assigning MDAs to specific DLIs for improved accountability.
Ensuring that all activities align with their respective Situation Analysis (SITAN).

Mandating that activities developed are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound).
Implementing only those activities captured within the Health MoU and included in the AOP.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, expressed deep appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his unwavering support to the health sector.

He also commended the Kano State House of Assembly, heads of MDAs, civil society organizations, and development partners for their invaluable contributions toward the successful harmonization of the 2026 Annual OperationalPlan (AOP).
