The Kano state Science and Technical Schools Boards (STSB) says it has focused on strengthening effective laboratory practicals for students in all the science and technical courses, building the capacity as well as training and retraining of teachers and renovations of schools for comprehensive teaching and learning in all the schools across the state.
The executive secretary of the board associate professor Dahiru Sale Mohammed disclosed this while addressing staff and executives of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS STSB Zone) who organized a two-year anniversary for the executive secretary and recognized some of the achievements recorded, held in Kano.
According to the executive secretary, his administration focused on ensuring that every science school conducts practicals in their laboratory’s despite existing challenges while that of technical schools strategized on innovation and creativity thereby making the students to be productive to the society and contribute to the local economy.

He said STSB also pays attention to posting of principals based on merit and area of specialization, noting “it is only on this basis that they can improve the performance in their colleges, some even went further to organized in house training for their teachers which contribute positively to our colleges.”
“We have trained 105 technical teachers in February this year on pedagogy, ICT and hands-on practical skills at Kaduna state Polytechnic. Also Jafar Sani Muhammad from Dawakin Tofa science college Kano emerged as 1st position in the 9th edition of the Young Scientist Governorship Award for which the Executive governor of Kano State Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf awarded the student with computer laptop and certificate,” said Dahiru Sale.
“In August this year (2025), as a result of the submission of the needs assessments of all our colleges to the executive Governor, he was given an approval for the total renovation of two colleges while over 20 colleges are currently receiving renovation such as Day Science College, GTC Kano, Maitama Sule Science Gaya and GSC Garko, among others.
The executive secretary has conducted a validation of admission exercise across STSB Colleges where 98 candidates were found with fake admission letters and the board is currently investigating the issue.
“I and my entire management team have also taken on the spot assessments visit to 6 de-boarded colleges namely; Girls Science and Technical College Gwarzo, Girls Science and Technical College, Karaye, Girls Science College, Garko, Maitama Sule Science College Gaya, Government Technical College, Bagauda and Government Technical College, Tiga as some certain decisions were taken.
The executive secretary then urged staff of the board to work as a family for a better service delivery.
In a remark, the chairman of ANCOPSS STSB Zone Salisu Tijjani said the anniversary was organized in recognition of the executive secretary’s achievements in transforming critical sectors for better service delivery.
Tijjani urged his colleagues (Principals) to support the executive secretary in his quest for productive students and a better society.
