Public Complaints Commission at 50: We’ve Received Over 4,650 Cases in 5 Month — Kano Commissioner

The Public Complaint Commission (PCC), Kano state office says it has received four thousand six hundred and fifty-two (4,652) complaints from individuals, groups and organizations from June 2025 to date.

The Kano state commissioner of the PCC Ibrahim Zakari Sarina disclosed this while briefing journalist shortly after he led road work and sensitization of public on the activities of the commission held in Kano Thursday.

According to Sarina, the commission in Kano state have intensified outreach to rural communities, civil society organizations, and the informal sector, ensuring that justice and accountability are not limited by geography or status.

“Today’s celebration is not just about the past 50 years it is a call to renew our commitment for the next 50. The world is changing, and so must we. The Commission is embracing digital complaint management systems, public enlightenment drives, and strategic collaboration with other agencies to make our services faster, more transparent, and more accessible,” said commissioner.

“Since my assumption to duty from June 2025 to date, the Commission has recorded remarkable progress in the handling of complaints from respected individual and organizations. A total of 4652 complaints have been received, out of which 767 cases have been successfully resolved through investigation, mediation and administrative intervention,” Sarina said.

PCC was established in 1975 during the administration of former military head of state general Murtala Ramat Muhammad with the then former minister Yusuf Maitama Sule as its pioneer chief commissioner.

“Fifty years ago, precisely on 16th October 1975, the Public Complaints Commission was established by Decree No. 31 (now Cap P37 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004). This visionary creation of the Federal Government was born out of the desire to ensure that the ordinary citizen has a place to seek redress against acts of injustice, maladministration, abuse of power, and unfair treatment by any government institution or private organization to protect the Since then, the Commission has remained steadfast in its mandate rights of the common man and to promote good governance through administrative justice,” said commissioner Sarina.

“Over the past five decades, the Public Complaints Commission has evolved into a trusted platform for citizens to voice grievances without fear or cost. In Kano State, the Commission has handled thousands of complaints from individuals, workers, communities, and corporate bodies many of which have been successfully resolved through mediation, investigation, and fair recommendations,” he added.

He then urged civil society organizations, community leaders, traditional rulers, members of the media and the general public to assist the commission in the discharge of its responsibilities.

The commissioner then called on individuals, groups and organizations ti visit the commission in case of any rights violations or complaints as its ready to past tracks issues and ensure justice to all.
