Vatican has elected Cardinal Robert Prevost as new Pope, the first from United State pontiff to assume the office.
He is the first US pontiff and takes the name Leo XIV.
In his first speech as pontiff, he said the church should “build bridges” and “welcome everyone”.

The development comes as many Catholic church members was angered by US president Donald Trump after he posted an AI-generated image of himself as the Pope, and that was coming after Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, sent out a social media post saying that Trump should be pope, even though Donald Trump isn’t Catholic.
However, after the announcement, Trump posted on social media that ‘this is great honour for the country.’
