The Kano State Government has called on residents to ensure the health and safety of animals intended for sacrifice during the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The government said the call was made to safeguard public health and prevent the spread of zoonotic diseases that may arise from unhealthy animals.

Speaking on the matter, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, emphasized the need for citizens to be vigilant and proactive by only purchasing and slaughtering animals that are certified healthy.

In a statement by the public relations officer of the Kano state ministry of health Nabilusi Abubakar Kofar Na’isa narrated the commissioner as warning that certain diseases found in animals could be transmitted to humans, especially when the meat is not handled or prepared properly.

Dr. Yusuf further advised that special attention should be given to how the meat is cooked. According to him, ensuring thorough cooking of the meat is crucial in eliminating harmful microorganisms and pathogens that may be present in the animal.

He particularly urged mothers and food handlers to take responsibility in this regard, as their actions are key in preventing food-borne illnesses.

In addition, the Commissioner stressed the importance of hygiene in meat preparation. He encouraged households to wash the meat thoroughly with clean water before cooking or storing. This, he noted, is a basic but effective measure in reducing the risk of contamination and ensuring safe consumption.

The Commissioner also reassured residents of the government’s readiness to respond to any public health emergencies that may occur during the Sallah festivities.

He stated that the Kano State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has adequately stocked state-owned health facilities with essential drugs and emergency medical supplies to provide prompt assistance when needed.

Dr. Yusuf reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to promoting preventive healthcare measures and urged the public to cooperate by adhering to health advisories issued by medical professionals, especially during festive periods when food consumption is high and risks are elevated.

In conclusion, the Honourable Commissioner extended warm Sallah greetings to the people of Kano State and wished them a peaceful, joyful, and healthy Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
