A shocking incident has occurred in Kazaure, Jigawa State, where a 27-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly setting his father ablaze, leading to his death.
According to a statement issued by SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the Jigawa State Police public relations officer said the tragic event took place in the early hours of April 1, 2026, at Lokon Malamai in Magama Quarters.
The statement said Police reports indicate that at about 6:30 a.m., authorities received information that a 60-year-old man had been set on fire by an unidentified individual. Officers promptly responded and rushed the victim to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
It said preliminary investigations revealed that the attack occurred around 6:00 a.m., when the suspect allegedly poured a flammable substance, believed to be petrol, on the victim and ignited it.
Following swift surveillance and investigation, police arrested the victim’s biological son, identified as Kabiru Nuhu, who was found with fresh burn injuries on his forehead, arms, and toes, the development raising strong suspicion of his involvement.
The victim was later referred to a higher medical facility for intensive treatment but unfortunately died from the injuries sustained.
The suspect is currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Haruna Alaba Yahaya, condemned the act, describing it as heinous and unacceptable.
He assured the public that justice would be served and urged residents to adopt peaceful means of resolving disputes.
The police also called on members of the public to report cases of domestic violence and cooperate with ongoing investigations.
Authorities say further updates will be communicated as the case develops.
