President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed a federal government delegation to Kano State following the recent fire outbreak at the popular Singer Market, which caused significant losses to traders and business owners.

The delegation, to be led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, is expected to visit the state to assess the level of damage, sympathize with victims, and convey the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting recovery efforts.

The move comes just days after an earlier fire incident at the same market, during which no federal delegation was publicly announced. The timing of the current intervention has drawn attention, as the President and his Vice are also scheduled to visit Kano for a major political event.

Observers note that the President’s upcoming visit for political activities may have influenced the decision to combine governance responsibilities with physical presence in the state. While disaster response is part of the Federal Government’s duty, some political analysts suggest that high-profile visits often provide opportunities to demonstrate leadership and responsiveness to local crises.

Government officials, however, maintain that the delegation is purely a humanitarian response aimed at providing relief and reassurance to affected traders. They emphasize that responding to large-scale disasters remains a federal priority, regardless of political engagements.

The development highlights the intersection between governance and politics, particularly in periods of significant political activity. As Kano prepares to host the President and other top officials, affected traders are hopeful that the federal intervention will translate into tangible support and swift recovery efforts.
