Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully repelled suspected terrorists along a major route linking Katsina State and Kano State, recovering the bodies of two police personnel in the aftermath of the attack.
Security sources revealed that the incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m., when troops of the 17 Brigade responded to credible intelligence indicating that armed terrorists had mounted a roadblock along the Yargajam–Sabon Garin–Garu axis, a known border corridor between the two states.
Upon arrival, the troops reportedly engaged the area with probing gunfire, forcing the attackers to abandon their position and flee toward Kankia Local Government Area.

“On sighting the troops, the terrorists abandoned the roadblock and retreated into nearby areas,” a security source disclosed.
During a follow-up operation to secure the area, the troops discovered the corpses of two personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, believed to have been killed by the attackers before the military’s arrival.
The remains were subsequently evacuated and handed over to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Gidan Mutum Daya.
Security agencies have since intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, while patrols along the corridor have been strengthened to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of commuters.
The Yargajam–Sabon Garin–Garu route has in recent times witnessed recurring security challenges, prompting sustained joint security operations to safeguard lives and property in the area.
