The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) hereby reiterates its full and unequivocal support for the ongoing total and indefinite strike embarked upon by workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in protest against persistent unresolved labour disputes and repeated violations of workers’ rights.

On Monday, FCTA workers, acting within their constitutional and industrial rights, peacefully converged at the National Industrial Court in Abuja to draw national attention to their long-standing grievances. These include the non-payment of promotion arrears, poor working conditions, lack of basic working tools, and the failure of the FCTA management to honour agreements reached with organised labour.

The protest reflects the deep frustration and hardship faced by workers who have exhausted all legitimate channels of dialogue without meaningful response from the authorities. Placards displayed during the protest conveyed the collective anger of the workforce and underscored the urgency of their demands for justice, fairness, and respect for labour rights.

The NLC notes with concern the continued disregard for workers’ welfare by the political leadership of the FCTA. This neglect has made the strike unavoidable. We emphasise that the responsibility for the disruption of services in the Federal Capital Territory rests squarely with the FCTA administration, which has failed to address these issues despite repeated engagements.

The Congress therefore calls on the relevant authorities to urgently intervene, resolve all outstanding labour matters, and restore industrial harmony. Until concrete actions are taken and workers’ legitimate demands are met, the strike will remain in force.

The NLC remains committed to defending the rights, dignity, and welfare of all Nigerian workers.
