Displinary Actions Awaits Erring Police Officers On the Forthcoming Elections

The Kebbi state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Magaji Kontagora, says, severe disciplinary actions await any erring Police Officer before, during and after the electioneering period.

The Commissioner of Police, who stated this while briefing newsmen on the preparedness of the Command on the forthcoming general elections said, the Command has always been warning its personnel to be neutral and apolitical; while discharging their duties during the forthcoming General Elections.

CP Magaji Kontagora, said the Command has been organizing workshops, seminars and conferences bothering on Electoral las, Human rights violation, civility to members of the public, crowd control as well as arrest of electoral offenders, with a view to refreshing the memory of its personnel and to acquaint them with the best international policing standard.

“With reference to the 2023 General Elections, the Police, as the lead security agency in the election security processes, have the statutory obligation to ensure the maintenance of security, law and order, with the active support of other relevant security agencies”.

According to him, threat analysis has been conducted, whereby all the trouble areas in Kebbi State have been identified and the Police tactical teams and other security agencies would be deployed to those areas with a view to forestalling any unforeseen circumstances.

He manta inexpressive that, the Police will always be more careful during electoral security deployments, exhibit a high degree of professionalism and fairness in dealings with all parties.

CP Kontagora said, Police incollaboration with other Security Agencies advised against the use of youths for any form of violence and thuggery that will truncate the electoral process in the State as this will not be tolerated and will be dealt with accordingly.

He used the médium to called on the media practitioners in the state on the need to publish information or make statement of facts during the electioneering period and also be guided by professionalism.

The Commissioner of Police however describe the media as guardian of truth for the people and not allow themself to be manipulated by any other interestelar saying, in this crucial role, be aware of the pernicious effects of promoting subversive declaration and counter declarations.
