2023 CENSUS: FG Urges Radio Stations to Fight Mis-Information

The federal government of Nigeria has urged radio stations in Nigeria to use their professionalism of communications in fighting mis-information currently going around on social media against the plans national and housing census nationwide.

The Minister of information and culture Alhaji Lai Muhammadu who double a chairman publicity committee of the 2023 census stated this at curtesy visit to Radio Nigeria Pyramid FM Kano as part of the critical stakeholder engagements in Kano with a view to sensitized the general public on the importance of the exercise and ways of supporting the federal governments efforts in ensuring the success of the events.

Muhammad represented by the Director general of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) Dr. Garba Abari said media especially radio stations in northern Nigeria plays a vital role in sensitizing the general public adding that with the lion share of people listening radio stations, a lot of information will be passed and conceived by people across the region.

“Are side from the early morning prayers, it was radio first that people listen in northern Nigeria even before breakfast, this is actually the culture, and by doing so, we will fill in the gaps so that we well not allowed the space to be taken away by fake news merchants,” Abari said.

“We were in Kano emir’s palace, we are meeting his excellency the governor of Kano, all was parts of scheduled visits to critical stakeholders on what is expected from the 2023 census so as to ensure the success of the exercise,” he said.

Earlier, the general manager of the station Comrade Abba Bashir appreciate the visit describing it as one of the historic one.

Bashir also reiterated the commitments of the station in enlightening the general public the importance of the census and how it affects human life especially in Kano which happens to be the most populace state in Nigeria.

He then promised to gives number priority to all jingles, advisement and programs aimed at fighting mis-information especially on the coming exercise.
