The Borno state Governor Babagana Zulum has inaugurated eighteen member Census Publicity Committee to ensure grassroot mobilisation of people to actively participate in the exercise.
The Committee has the Deputy Governor Alhaji Umar Kadafur as Chairman while Federal Commissioner National Population Commission as Co-Chair, other members are drawn from traditional, religious leaders, Chairman Nigerian Union of Journalists, civil society organisations, National Orientation Agency, Women and Youth organisations.
Inaugurating the Committee on behalf of the state Governor, the Deputy Governor Umar Kadafur said the Committee is aimed building partnership and collaboration for effective mobilisation of the citizenry for the 2023 Population and Housing census.
He remarked that the Committee will also promote local ownership and acceptability of the Census among stakeholders and to serve as feedback mechanism platform.

“The objectives of this Committee is to ensure grassroots dissemination of the 2023 Census messages and its acceptance as well as to mobilize resources to supplement the National Population Commission budgetary provisions in the implementation of the advocacy and publicity for the 2023 Census” Zulum said.
Responding on behalf of the Committee, the State Director National Population Commission Alhaji Kachalla Yerima appreciated the state government for the support during the pre-census activity.
He assured that the Committee members would do their best to ensure that exercise is conducted successfully.
Terms of reference of the Committee include to carryout public enlightenment, education and solicit support for 2023 Census, undertake advocacy visits and strategic engagement with key stakeholders, mobilize resources, material or otherwise for the conduct of the advocacy and publicity for the Census exercise among others.
