Police Arrest 10 Hoodlums, Recovers 5 Locally Pistols, 2 Rifles, Others in Jigawa

The Jigawa state police command said it has arrested seven (7) suspected hoodlums at Garin Gabas and Fulatanari villages of Malam Madori and Birniwa local government areas respectively.

The state police public relations officer DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam stated this in a statement made available to journalists in Dutse, the state capital.

According to the statement after the arrest, it has also recovered Five (5) locally Fabricated Barretta Pistols, 2 long-range riffles, 1 Magazine, 29 life ammunitions, 115 parcels of indian hemp and 65 pieces of counterfeit USD Notes.

It said “On 23/6/2023 at about 1400hrs team of detectives attached to SCID Dutse raided the Garin Gabas, and Fulatanari villages of Malam Madori and Birniwa LGA respectively.”

Lawan Shiisu said the suspect arrested includes, Auwalu Maidawa ‘m’ 66yrs of M/Madori LGA, Shehu Ali ‘m’ 52yrs of Jalawa village M/Madori LGA, Jaji Mohd ‘m’ 31yrs of Dolan Kwane Birniwa LGA, Umar Huja ‘m’ 45yrs of Talaku Fulani settlement M/Madori LGA, Mohd Ali ‘m’ age 30yrs of Kaciduna village M/Madori LGA, Yakubu Ya’u ‘m’ 30yrs of Fulatanari village Birniwa LGA and Manzo Mohd ‘m’ 50yrs of Fulatana village Birniwa LGA.

The suspects were found in possession of locally fabricated Berretta Pistols and long-range firearms.

On interrogation at SCID Dutse, the suspects confessed to having bought the aforementioned firearms from one Alassan Sabo Garba ‘m’ of Garin-Gabas village M/Madori LGA.

Recalled that, based on inter-Agency collaboration, on the 1st June, 2023 at about 1645hrs, operatives attached to the Department of State Services (DSS), Jigawa State Command, arrested one Alassan Sabo Garba ‘m’ of Garin Gabas Market, Malam Madori LGA, who specialized in manufacturing and selling locally fabricated firearms and handed over to the police with the exhibit recovered in his possession.

The PPRO added that the suspects will be charged to court for the offense of conspiracy and Illegal Possession of Firearms.

In another development, the command has arrested two people namely Victor Tobi and Wilson Maro on allegations of transportation of Indian hemp and other on wanted/banned substances.

“On 24/06/2023 Victor Tobi ‘m’ 56yrs and Wilson Maro ‘m’ 40yrs all of No. 4 Court Road Sabon Gari Kano State, conspired and drove a Toyota Camry motor vehicle dark brown, loaded with one hundred and fifteen (115) parcels of dry leave suspect to be Indian-hemp from Kano state heading to Hadejia LGA, Jigawa state, on reaching Garki town, Garki LGA the rear tire of the vehicle busted and the vehicle somersaulted and hit a motorcyclist coming from the other lane,” said the statement.

According to him when policemen from Garki Division on patrol duty, arrived at the scene for the rescue operation, they discovered that the victims are suppliers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

It said the victims were immediately arrested together with the exhibit and taken to Police Divisional Headquarters Garki, before further being transferred to SCID Dutse for discreet investigation, upon completion of the investigation, suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.

Meanwhile, at about 1120hrs on 21/06/2023 one Anas Adamu ‘m’ aged 25yrs of Kofar Wambai, Kano state reported that a group of people from Birnin kudu LGA lured him and collected the sum of one million five-hundred thousand Naira (₦1.5m) in exchange with USD notes. He later realized that the USD notes were counterfeited. After a while, the same syndicate called to deceive him again.

The police said on receipt of the information, detectives attached to SCID Dutse swung into action and arrested one Hussani Isah alias Malam Usman ‘m’ age 25yrs of Kankare village Birnin Kudu LGA.

“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to being part of the syndicate terrorizing B/kudu and environs exchanging fake USD notes,” said shiisu.

Effort is in top gear to arrest his accomplices.

Furthermore, the command has confirmed that it has stormed Shagari Quarters in Hadejia local government area of the state on the allegations that hoodlums in their numbers were sighted with arms and weapons.

The command also in a statement by PPRO Lawan Shiisu reads “on 24/06/2023 at about 0500hrs, a distress call was received from a reliable source, that hoodlums in their numbers, armed with weapons were sighted at Shagari quarters, Hadejia LGA.”

It said “On receipt of the report, the patrol team attached to Hadejia ‘A’ Division led by the Divisional Police Officer rushed to the scene. On sighting the police, the culprits took to their heels, and abandoned items which includes One magazine loaded with 29 live ammunition of AK47 rifle, National ID card, bearing the name of Jumba Lawali, Voter’s Card bearing the said name, Handset Sansumg Galaxy ‘A’ 31 Model. Motor vehicle tubes were used to hide the rifle, ATM card issued by the first bank, Two motorcycle side mirrors and Army camouflage, native clothes, shoes, p-cap, and other items.

According to shiisu intel reveals that the hoodlums are strongly suspected to be planning to perpetrate their nefarious acts within Hadejia Township, before the prompt response to distress by a team of Policemen arriving at the scene and foiling the attempt.

Meanwhile, the command’s surveillance, monitoring, and payroll were sustained to arrest the lingering spirits.
