FCAPT, Kano Polytechnic Celebrates World Cooperative Day

Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology (FCAPT) Kano, has celebrated World Cooperative Day in order to boost the habit of Cooperative among the general individuals.

The Provost FCAPT Kano Dr. Muhammad Yusha’u Gwaram stated this during the occasion held in the school auditorium Hotoro, said the day is one of the important occasions that the institution give so much priority, considering the number of gain cooperative associations is given in the larger society.

The occasion is a collaborative effort with Kano State Polytechnic and Kano State Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Cooperatives, and Solid Minerals.

Muhammad Yusha’u Gwaram maintained that FCAPT Kano that are currently running National Diploma Course on Cooperative Economics, will do everything possible to improve the course to give opportunity to many youths to understand the benefit that society can derive if cooperative culture is inculcated fully.

“Plans are underway to launch the Higher National Diploma (HND) Course on Cooperative, so any student after finishing with National Diploma course on cooperative, will get an automatic chance for pursuing his HND.

“As you can see we are making linkages with other cooperative partners for accelerated sustainable development.

“FCAPT Kano as an institution of higher learning will continue to give its utmost best to the development of farming activities, other managerial courses for the well-being of the general public”, Gwaram stated.

The Provost added that the college achieved tremendous development in the area of its mandate, which include tackling post-harvest loss that is in the increase in the farming community.

“That is why we engaged stakeholders in short courses, seminars on how to improve the farming activities generally, which has been implemented in many areas of Kano and beyond”, Dr. Muhammad Yusha’u Gwaram.

Speaking earlier, the Kano State Commissioner of Commerce, Industry, Cooperatives and Solid Minerals Alhaji Abbas Sani Abbas said the Kano State Government is making a giant effort toward improving the registered cooperative societies in Kano.

The Commissioner who is represented by his Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Mairo Danbatta said cooperative association are reducing governmental burden by providing essentials goods and commodities to their members, services among others which the habit need to be empowered in all the Ministries, agencies, parastatals and Companies.

“Currently, our record shows that we have over 42 thousand registered cooperative societies, which many of them are doing positively well.

“That is why the Cooperative Department of the Ministry is planning to sensitize people of working groups, farmers to unite themselves in order to achieve their goals without the government engaging its hand in.

“Initially World Cooperative Day is the first Saturday of July every year, but this year’s celebration comes up during the Sallah holiday, that is we decided to shift it to the 13 of July,” Hajiya Mairo Danbatta.

In his keynote address, the Chairman Freedom Radio Group, Alhaji Ado Muhammad appealed to the students of the cooperative to spread the positive advantages that one may get from cooperative association so that our environment will be better in the future.

“There is goodness in the habit of unity because almighty Allah commands us to always be in unity in our community.

“That is why we want you to organize yourself, and engage in cooperative associations that will manage the activities of many people”, Ado Muhammad.

Students from the Cooperative Department of Kano State Polytechnic and FCAPT marched from the school premises in Hotoro to Kano State Government House, for the official to bless the memorable occasion that comes up every first Saturday of July.
