The remains of renowned Professor of community medicine, Professor Emeritus Umaru Shehu has been laid to rest amidst thousands of mourners at Gwange graveyard in Maiduguri, the Borno state.
Vice President Kashim Shettima led a Presidential delegation to the funeral prayer at his residence in old GRA.
The Chief Imam of Borno Imam Laisu Ibrahim Ahmed led the funeral prayer which has many dignitaries in attendance including Borno state Deputy Governor Umar Kadafur, ministers of Agriculture and food security Abubakar Kyari and his Education counterpart Professor Mamman Tahir, Shehu of Borno Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Elkanemi, academics, political office holders, traditional rulers among others.

In an interview with newsmen, Vice President Kashim Shettima described late Professor Emeritus Umaru Shehu as a medical scholar of global repute who has contributed immensely in the health sector.
He prayed for the repose of his soul and the family to bear the loss with fortitude.

Late Professor Shehu died in the early hours of Monday at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital at the age 93.

He was Vice Chancellor University of Nigeria Nsukka in 1978, Sole Administrator University of Maiduguri from 1991 to 1993, Chairman board of directors Institute of Human Virology among other positions within and outside the county and was appointed Professor Emeritus in 2000 by University of Maiduguri.
