Nigeria, Benin Republic to Strengthen Social, Economic Tights

The Nigeria Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Yusuf Tuggar and that of Benin Republic, Olushegun Adjadi Bakaru, have on Tuesday held a bilateral meeting aimed at improving free flow of trade and commerce between the two countries at the Segbana border post in Benin Republic

The meeting also aimed at bringing the border crossing between Tsamiya in Nigeria and Anguwar Sule Wara in Benin Republic back to life through infrastructural development inline with renewed hope initiative of President Tinubu.

The Nigeria Minister of Foreign Affairs, said the forum was based on directive by President Bola Tinubu and President, Patrice Talon of Benin Republic to strengthen social and economic interaction as well expand trade and commerce between the citizens of the two countries.

He said, progress was made on strengthening relationship between the two West African nations at the forum.

The Comptroller General, Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale-Adeniyi, said the meeting was to advance the course of regional integration between the two countries already created by the two Presidents.

He stated that, for the past six months, the Nigeria Customs Service has been working together with the Customs Service of Benin Republic towards bringing the economy of both nations closer through easy border crossing and brining back to life the border post at Tsamiya and Anguwar Sule Wara.

The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, thanked the Presidents of the two countries for resuscitating free flow of trade and transportation of goods to various destinations within the two countries.

The Governor emphasized that, the state has maintained good neighborliness with the Republic of Benin on economic activities and social interaction as both beneficial of the border.

Romuald Wadagni, Senior Minister, Ministry of Economy, Finance and Cooperation, Benin Republic and Mrs Adidjatou Hassan, General Director of the Benin Customs Service, Governors of the Benin Republic and Heads of security agencies from Kebbi state present at the meeting.
