UN Blacklisted Sudan Army, RSF Among Organizations Killing Children in Armed Conflict

The United Nations (UN) has blacklisted Sudanese Army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) among countries, organizations and armed groups killing children in Armed Conflict globally.

The army led by general Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan and RSF led by the deputy chairman of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo were accused of committing war crimes, human rights violations, extra judicial killing of children as well as recruiting children to handle weapons especially from the RSF in Dafur region.

The UN sanctions committee has added the Sudanese Army and RSF to its blacklist, freezing their assets and imposing a travel ban on key individuals.

The Sudanese Army and RSF have been accused of committing war crimes, including killing civilians, rape, and forced displacement.

The UN sanctions aim to pressure the military authorities to stop these violations and respect human rights.

In a report to UN security council, secretary general Antonio Guterres called out the armed forces of Israel and Sudan as forces killing children, attacking schools and hospitals.

The RSF who have been fighting the Sudanese Armed Forces since April last year, was also named for recruiting and using children, committing rape and other sexual violence and attacking schools and hospitals.

The report, compiled by Guterres’ envoy for children and armed conflict Virginia Gamba, covers six grave violations killing and maiming, sexual violence, abduction, recruitment and use, denial of aid and attacks on schools and hospitals.
