National Population Commission Urges People to Embrace Demographic Dividend

The National Population Commission (NPC) has urged people to embrace the Demographic Dividend for the healthy growth of their children.

The Federal Commissioner of the NPC in charge of Kano State Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa made the call at a 3- Day Desk Officers and Media Practitioner’s orientation workshop on Demographic Dividend organize by the NPC in collaboration with Lafiya Programme held in Kaduna.

The Commissioner further explained that the importance of this exercise can never be over emphasized, he enjoined People, Groups, CSOs, Community Leaders, Ulama’s Religious Preachers, Voluntary organization, Media and all other like minds to propagate this campaign for maximum awareness.

The Commissioner represented by Director at the Commission in charge of Kano Alhaji Balarabe Kabir pointed out that any nation’s with very high dependency ratio and high death rates they is tendency of having poor hygiene, high disease burden, poor medical Care malnourished among other challenging issues, the development in that country would be very low.

The Commissioner charged care givers and parents to Carter the need of their children by providing quality education, food, shelter, clothing and medical Care for them to have a very sound and usefully family.

He advised parents to have control over their children by providing them with basic necessary social amenities instead of having over dependency which may cause a lot of harm than good.

Dr. Tsanyawa further enjoined the media to support in educating, sensitizing and enlightened the general public on the DD agenda so that Nigeria and Kano State in particular will see the light of the day, by having a united, well coordinated and meaningful society that can stand the test of time.

Meanwhile he solicited strong collaboration between the commission and the media houses in the state, and to take this campaign to the door step of every house in order to achieve the set objectives.

The Commissioner however, commended the Lafiya Programme for their support by providing enabling environment for this 3 day workshop, and applaud the participants for their
meaningful contribution which would no doubt assist in providing a very highly robust document for the state, presentations were made as well as brainstorming sessions by the participants to have a clear understanding of the concept of the DD agenda.
