The Kano state Peace Committee (KPC) has commended the leadership of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) for suspending its strike commenced at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital over Alleged assault on medical worker by state commissioner for humanitarian and poverty reduction.

The convener/head of Secretariat of KPC Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya disclosed this in a statement sent to GLOBAL TRACKER in Kano on Friday morning.

According to him, the ugly incident led to the demand for the sacking of the commissioner by leadership of NMA, Kano state branch.

It reads in full “The attention of the Kano Peace Committee (KPC), has been drawn to an intervention of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, over the rift which erupted between Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Sani, Hon. Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction and Nigerian Medical Association, Kano State Branch, on behalf of a medical doctor, who was alleged to have been assaulted at her duty post in one of the hospitals in the State

The ugly development, unfortunately led to the demand for the sacking of the Commissioner, by the leadership of the NMA, Kano State Branch

We have therefore learnt that, the Kano State Branch has now heeded to the request of His Excellency, and Consequently resolved to shelve the plan on mass action

The Kano Peace Committee, is therefore pleased to commend the leadership of the NMA, for the demonstrated high sense of maturity, responsibility and humanity.

We wish to equally commend His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, for the demonstrated leadership quality and maturity in handling the matter.

The Kano Peace Committee, shares the pain of the aggrieved medical personnel, and we pray that, the Almighty Allah shall continue to reward the huge sacrifice our medical personnel make in the State, in their commitment towards serving the good people of Kano State.

It is also our candid opinion that, your sacrifice should not go unnoticed or ignored and deserves a reciprocal behavior

While we once again appreciate the NMA leadership in Kano State, for reconsidering their earlier position on the planned mass action, let us continue to remain committed to the service of humanity, as professionals, who are guided by ethical principles, values and practices, with saving the lives as the top priority.
