Pakistan is on the verge of a significant political upheaval after planning to ban former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The government cites proven charges of PTI receiving illegal foreign funds and rioting by its supporters targeting military installations last year.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar announced that the federal government would move a case to ban PTI, which will be presented to the cabinet for a decision.
PTI’s lobbying in Washington and efforts to pressure international bodies like the IMF were also cited as reasons for the decision to ban the party.
