Jigawa: Building Collapse Claims 3, As Police Arrest 2 Over Alleged Culpable Homicide

Three people (3) were confirmed dead, four (4) others sustained various degrees of injuries following building collapse in Taura local government area of Jigawa state.

The police public relations officer DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam disclosed this in a statement sent to GLOBAL TRACKER.

According to the statement, also, one person were confirmed dead while two others were arrested by police on allegation of culpable homicide.

The statement reads “THEFT, INCITING DISTURBANCE, MISCHIEF BY FIRE AND CAUSING GRIEVOUS HURT: According to information from trustworthy sources, suspicion of cattle rustling resulted in the burning of five (5) houses and the injuries of six (6) people in the Garki LGA villages of Maikambu and Balalashe.

On receipt of the report, the teams of Policemen and the Nigerian Army led by Area Commander Ringim were rushed to the scene, restored the normalcy and conveyed the victims to Gumel General Hospital for treatment.

To prevent further breakdowns of law and order in the areas, the team was also directed to stay there.

Recall that, on 20/07/2024 at about 1400hrs, a group of villagers in their large numbers from Amaguwa village, Ringim LGA, went to Maikambu village, via Garki LGA, in search of stolen cows, belonging to one Isah Malam Ado ‘m’ 50yrs of Amaguwa village.

When the search party arrived at Maikambu village, where the suspected thieves’ footprints ended, the locals resisted them, preventing them from entering the suspected area.

Consequently, an altercation between the search party and the villagers ensued.

COLLAPSE OF SINTILMAWA BRIDGE IN RINGIM LGA: On 24/07/2024 at about 1500hrs, due to heavy down pour, half of Sintilmawa bridge along Ringim to Dutse road has collapsed.

Upon receipts of the report, a team of Policemen led by Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Ringim visited the scene.

Additionally, traffic wardens were stationed to control traffic in the vicinity.

The local government area of Ringim was alerted for prompt action.

There was no loss of life or injury recorded.

CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY, CAUSING GRIEVOUS HURT AND CULPABLE HOMICIDE: On July 25, 2024, at about 1230hrs, intelligence available to Command disclosed that two individuals, Haruna Idi ‘m’ from Garkon Alli village in Kiyawa LGA and his 80-year-old father, Idi Hassan ‘m’ from the same address, had been severely beaten with sticks. Consequently, the victim suffered a serious injury.

On receipt of the report, detectives from Kiyawa Division raced to the scene of crime and conveyed the victims to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital Dutse for medical attention. But a medical doctor on call pronounced Haruna Idi dead, and the father, who had a fractured hand and leg, was admitted and is at the hospital right now.

A preliminary investigation indicated that, one Ahmadu Idi ‘m’ age 45yrs and Sale Idi ‘m’ age 25yrs both of Garkon Alli village conspired and beat their brother one Haruna Idi, now deceased, accusing him of witchcraft. Following his hearing the news, their biological father, Idi Hassan, went to save his son but was also assaulted by his enraged sons.

The two (2) suspects were arrested and taken into custody for discreet investigation.

Upon completion of investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department Dutse, the suspects will be arraigned in court to face the law.

BUILDING COLLAPSE: On 27th of July 2024 at about 1000hrs, Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Gujungu reported that, he received a distress call that there was a building collapse at Kano road, Gujungu town in Taura LGA.

On receipt of the call, he immediately mobilized a team of Policemen and rushed to the scene.

On their arrival, the team noticed that, the two-storey buildings under construction had collapsed, as a result, three (3) persons died on the spots, they were identified as (1) Nafi’u Mohd ‘m’ age 28yrs of Rijiyar Zaki, Ungogo LGA of Kano State, (2) Abdurrahman Ibrahim ‘m’ age 60yrs of Danmadai village, Gagarawa LGA, and (3) Usman Lawan ‘m’ age 62yrs of the same address.

In the same vein, four (4) other persons sustained various degrees of injuries, they were also identified as (1) Umar Lawan ‘m’ age 26yrs, (2) Aminu Mohd ‘m’ 25yrs, (3) Mudansir Nasiru ‘m’ age 26yrs, and (4) Usman Mohd ‘m’ age 20yrs all of Rijiyar zaki, Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano state.

Both the corpses and victims were rushed to Jahun hospital for medical examination and treatment.

A preliminary investigation revealed that, victims were labourers working on the construction site.

In light of this, the Jigawa state Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, psc expressed his sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed them eternal rest. He prayed for the injured person to heal quickly as well.

The Commissioner of Police, seized the opportunity to call on those who may plan to embark on nationwide protest schedule from 1st_10th of August 2024 to provide their information to the State Headquarters, Dutse.

The details ought to contain:

1. Leaders’ and organizers’ names and contact information
2. Proposed protest routes and assembly points.
3. Expected duration of the protest
4. Measures to prevent hijacking by undesirable elements, including key identifiers for potential troublemakers.

After providing this, the Command sent out adequate personnel to protect the public, create open lines of communication with protest organizers to resolve any issues that may come up, reduce the likelihood of violence and property damage, and assign designated routes for protesters so that they do not interfere with other events or activities.
