The Kano state government has ordered the management of Nigeria National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC) to clear dump site located at the frontage of the depot or risk takeover of the site.
The state commissioner for environment and climate change Alhaji Nasiru Sule Garo stated this during monthly environmental sanitation supervision for markets, moto parks, abattoirs, business premises and government establishment held in Kano on Friday.
Represented by permanent secretary of the ministry Muhammad Yusuf Danduwa said the ministry has issued three weeks abatement noticed for management of the depot to clear the refuse and beautify the frontage of the depot or risk takeover by the state ministry of environment for the construction of garden or meaningful establishment.

“Generally the environment is clean, but the frontage of the NNPC depot is like a dumping place for refuse, we talk to the management seriously and we even warned them that government may revoked the license of only the frontage so that we can use it to develop garden or something that may look Kano to be better,” said Danduwa.
The monthly environmental sanitation supervision team visited Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) and Maryam Abacha American University all along Maiduguri road within Kano metropolis.
“In Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, all the environment is clean but we notice some corrections that need to be amended. We also advised them to plant more threes so as to avert the challenges of climate change in the state,” said the permanent secretary.
“At ARTV we noticed that their are renovations taking place because of the settlement of ministry of security and internal affairs there, however, we make some corrections to the management especially their toilets and other minor issues,” he said.
“At Maryam Abacha American University, we are pleased with how the environment looks very green, clean an tidy, however some observation was tabled before the management for prompt actions,” he added.
The commissioner then urged members of the public to use this saturdays monthly environmental sanitation period for cleaning their domain and make it habitable, noting that people were encouraged to cultivate the habit of planting trees to avoid hot weather and climate change issues.
