In his efforts to maintained synergy with the practicing journalist in Kano state, the State Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has held his first official meeting with the Kano State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Sani Abba Yola, director information and internal affairs said speaking during the meeting, the Commissioner stated that its purpose was to engage with the Correspondents’ Chapel and strengthen the existing cordial relationship between them.
Waiya described the correspondents as journalists who uphold ethical standards and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

The Commissioner acknowledged the contributions of the Correspondents’ Chapel in informing the public about government activities and programs.
He added that the ministry relies on them as professional journalists to enhance the coverage of government activities in their respective credible media organizations.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Kano State Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ, Aminu Garko, expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for recognizing their work and acknowledging their role in informing the public about the state government’s activities, as well as other significant events in Kano.
He assured the Commissioner of their readiness to collaborate with the ministry in disseminating accurate and timely information to the public while adhering to journalistic ethics and professional standards.
Several members of the Chapel shared their views on enhancing collaboration with the ministry to improve coverage of significant events in the state for the benefit of the public.
Meanwhile, the Kano state commissioner of information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has expressed his willingness to collaborate as well as partner with the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters.
The Commissioner made this statement while receiving members of the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters, Kano State Chapter, in his office.
He said the ministry would ensure that staff of state-owned broadcast agencies register with the professional body to enhance service delivery.
He emphasized the need to regulate certain content in broadcast media, particularly political programs, to prevent the spread of misinformation and protect the reputations of highly respected individuals.
The Commissioner further assured the Society of his commitment to collaboration, especially in the area of training, to ensure that all media content aligns with ethical standards, societal values, and religious principles.

Earlier, the Kano State Coordinator of the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters, Hajiya Aishatu Sule, congratulated the Commissioner on his appointment.
She explained that the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters is a professional body that regulates broadcasting in Nigeria, adding that no individual should practice as a broadcaster without registering with the organization.
In his remarks, the Vice President of the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters, North West Zone, Ado Sa’idu Warawa, solicited the ministry’s support in organizing workshops to equip broadcasters with modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance digital broadcasting in line with global standards.
He also appealed to the Commissioner to assist the Society in securing a befitting secretariat to improve working conditions.
