As Kano people suffered very hot weather due to poor supply of electricity, the Northern Youths Assembly (NYA) Kano State Chapter, has express deep concern over the worsening electricity situation in the state berating Kano State Electricity Distribution Company KEDCO.
Sulaiman Idris, the NYA chairman in a statement sent to journalist said the persistent power outages experienced by residents and businesses have caused immense hardship, slowed economic activities, and diminished the quality of life across the state.
“This critical situation reflects the continued failure of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) to effectively distribute power within the state. It also points to the Federal Government’s unfulfilled promises of ensuring a stable and reliable power supply for Nigerians.”
According to the youth group, despite repeated assurances from KEDCO, the reality on the ground remains far from acceptability.
NYA said, it believed that with unity, innovation, and strategic investment, Kano can overcome its electricity challenges and set a model for other regions in Nigeria.
“We therefore, use this medium to call upon stakeholders — including community leaders, energy experts, and policymakers — to urgently convene and deliberate on sustainable solutions to Kano’s electricity crisis”.
“This issue demands immediate attention and coordinated efforts at all levels”.
“Moreover, we issue a strong call to wealthy individuals, investors, and industrialists in Kano, the Northern region, and across Nigeria: Now is the time to invest in independent power generation and distribution companies. Kano needs innovative, localized solutions to meet its growing electricity demand”.
