The Kano State Government spent ₦10.36 billion on miscellaneous expenses between January and June 2026, including ₦1.78 billion on hospitality and ₦1.21 billion on honorarium and sitting allowances, according to the state’s second-quarter budget performance report.
The expenditure represents 16.3 per cent of the approximately ₦63 billion allocated for general miscellaneous expenses in the 2026 fiscal year under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
A breakdown of the figures shows that hospitality expenses accounted for ₦1.78 billion, representing 55.6 per cent of the ₦3.19 billion annual allocation. Of this amount, approximately ₦1.31 billion was recorded in the second quarter alone.

Honorarium and sitting allowances accounted for about ₦1.21 billion, representing 47.1 per cent of the ₦2.57 billion annual budget for the category.
Publicity and advertisements consumed ₦1.49 billion, equivalent to 35.7 per cent of the ₦4.16 billion allocated for the year, while welfare packages accounted for ₦901.94 million out of the ₦4.03 billion annual provision.
The report also recorded ₦116.53 million for refreshments and meals, representing 7.6 per cent of the ₦1.54 billion budgeted for the item.
Other miscellaneous expenses amounted to ₦3.80 billion, representing 29 per cent of the ₦13.08 billion allocated for the category.
The state further spent ₦296.03 million on special days and celebrations, ₦64.62 million on local medical expenses and ₦40.30 million on international medical expenses during the period.
Meanwhile, expenditure under the foreign scholarship scheme stood at ₦162.95 million, representing just 0.6 per cent of the ₦26.23 billion allocated for the programme in the 2026 budget.
The figures are contained in the second-quarter 2026 Budget Implementation Report published by the Kano State Ministry of Planning and Budget. The report provides details of the state’s budget allocations and expenditure performance for the first six months of the year.
The expenditure figures offer a snapshot of how the state government deployed public funds across various recurrent spending categories during the period.
