Prominent businessman in Kano, Alhaji Kabiru Sani Kwangila Yakasai (SKY), has called on governments at various levels in the country to focus on implementing projects that will reduce poverty among the populace.

The businessman advised governors that, within the remaining two years of their tenure, they should consider the major projects they have executed in the past two years, and now shift their attention to smaller projects that will directly impact the lives of the people, as this will help reduce petty crimes in society.

SKY made this statement during the closing ceremony of the reading of the book Ashfa, presented by Malam Abdulkadir Shehu Mai Anwar, held in Tudun Yola, Gwale Local Government Area.

In a statement signed by Media Aide Kamal Yakubu Ali, the bossiness mogul said that at present, people are going through hardship and poverty that hinder their well-being, therefore the government should consider initiating projects that will directly affect people’s lives in order to alleviate their current suffering.

SKY urged governors to allocate substantial funds to support traders and other small-scale entrepreneurs in order to strengthen their capacity to grow their businesses.

He added that at this time, many small-scale traders have lost their capital, so the Federal Government and State Governors—especially in Northern Nigeria—should introduce measures to support their citizens to reduce poverty, improve living standards, and promote peace within society.

He also advised state governments to provide free fertilizer to farmers, as currently farmers are in dire need of government support due to the high cost of fertilizer. This, he said, will help the government’s efforts in ensuring food is available at affordable prices.

He further called on the authorities to construct affordable housing in different areas, considering the congestion in cities which contributes to petty crimes among youths. Such housing projects would also benefit workers and low-income earners.

The event was attended by many community members including clerics, as well as the District Head of Kaura Namoda from Zamfara State and others.
