In a landmark ceremony held in Kano, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has inducted 72 Information Officers and Public Relations practitioners from the Kano State Ministry of Information.
This grand event, led by Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, marks a significant step towards professionalizing public communication in the state.
The induction ceremony signifies the Kano State Government’s commitment to upholding ethical standards and building capacity across its ministries, departments, agencies, and local government areas.

Comrade Waiya emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader reform agenda aimed at creating a competent, ethical, and informed public service.
“This induction is not just ceremonial; it’s a transformational step that underscores our resolve to professionalize public information services.
NIPR President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, who administered the induction oath, encouraged the new members to continue growing and developing their skills. “This induction is only the foundation. You must grow yourselves, attend meetings and conferences, and work towards becoming Fellows of the Institute,” he advised.
Dr. Neliaku also highlighted the NIPR’s history and vision, noting its establishment in 1963 and its global alliances with 126 countries.
The induction ceremony included an orientation lecture by Associate Professor Sule Yau Sule, who enlightened the new members on the expectations, responsibilities, and structure of NIPR membership.
The Kano State Chairman of NIPR, Comrade Aliyu Yusuf, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, particularly Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf and Commissioner Waiya, for their support in making the ceremony a success.
This induction marks a new chapter in the journey towards excellence in public relations and communication in Kano State. With an additional batch of officers set to undergo a Master’s Class in Public Relations, the future looks bright for professional communication in the state.
