SWOCHI Urges People to Get Vaccinated Against HPV

The Society for Women and Child Health Initiatives (SWOCHI) has urged the general public to get their children and relatives vaccinated as against Human Papillomavirus (HPV), the virus which cause cervical cancer to women.

HPV which is a silent disease affects million of people globally, can be prevented through vaccinations.

Malam Sharif Abubakar, the chief executive officer of SWOCHI disclosed this at a sensitization program organized in commemoration of World Human Papillomavirus Day celebrated every November 17 annually.

“Though HPV is a silent threat which affect millions lives globally, its so common that most of the people will contacted it at some point in lives, but it is good for people to know that it can be prevented by vaccination,” said Sharif.

According to him, girls and boys aged 9-14 that is before they become sexually active and young adults who haven’t been vaccinated yet can do so to prevent their children against the killer disease,” said Malam Sharif.

“Vaccination prevents cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases, Protects against genital warts and abnormal cell changes and can prevent certain types of cancer in men, like anal and throat cancer,” added Sharif.

Some of the caregivers interviewed by GLOBAL TRACKER commended SWOCHI for sensitization describing it as timely looking at the some of the HPV cases recorded before in their area and how people handle it.

“I am happy i meet you today, i’ve never take issue like this as serious as it is now, and i am sure this will help me, and the rest of my colleague’s at home,” said Halima Bashir, one of the caregivers.
