Alhaji Sule Lamido, the former Jigawa State Governor has expressed concern over the lingering internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that it could weaken the party’s position as Nigeria’s leading opposition if not urgently resolved.
Lamido made the remarks during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting held at his residence in the Sharada Quarters of Kano, convened amid growing anxiety among party members over leadership tussles at both the national and state levels.
The former governor who is also an aspirant for the party’s national leadership position, said the meeting was aimed at briefing stakeholders on efforts being made to resolve the crisis.

He disclosed that he had initiated consultations with PDP governors and key party leaders, including the Chairman of the party’s Reconciliation Committee, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, among others, to find lasting solutions to the disagreements within the party.
According to him, further meetings have been scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, after which a clearer and more definitive position is expected to emerge.
He urged party members to remain patient and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions.
Despite its challenges, Lamido maintained that the PDP remains the only viable opposition party capable of restoring political stability, economic growth, and security in the country, noting that many Nigerians are yearning for a credible alternative to address the nation’s mounting challenges.
He assured stakeholders from Jigawa State that all party members would be free to contest elective positions of their choice on the PDP platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, adding that while political alliances could be considered if necessary, such an option would only be a last resort after all internal mechanisms for resolving the crisis have been exhausted.
Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of the PDP in Jigawa State said party stakeholders were at the former governor’s residence to understand their political fate and the direction of the party in the state, in view of the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP.
