The former Thugs and members of the Safe Corridor Initiative in Kano Municipal Local Government Area and beyond have pledged their support for the Kano State Government’s efforts to curb thuggery and restore lasting peace across the state.

The Chairman of the initiative, Salisu Angui Zango, made the pledge on Thursday during a press briefing at the Kano Online Media Chapel (KOMC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists where he urged youths to renounce daba and embrace peaceful, law-abiding lifestyles.

Zango said the Safe Corridor Initiative was established to rehabilitate, reform, and reintegrate youths who voluntarily abandoned violence, adding that members of the programme remain committed to supporting government policies aimed at enhancing security and social stability.

He described the initiative as a critical partner in the state’s peace-building efforts, noting that sustainable peace could only be achieved by steering youths away from criminality and providing them with opportunities for personal development and economic self-reliance.

Speaking on behalf of participants who surrendered their weapons, leaders of the group reaffirmed their resolve to remain peaceful and contribute to the success of the Safe Corridor Initiative and the broader security objectives of the Kano State Government.

They disclosed that while they had completed screening exercises at the Kano State Police Command, coordinated by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Wayya, the support packages promised under the programme were yet to be fully implemented.

The group, however, expressed confidence in the government’s commitment and appealed for the timely delivery of the pledged interventions, including vocational training, educational support, and sustainable livelihood opportunities, stressing that their implementation would strengthen the long-term success of the initiative in Kano State.
