The executive governor of Kano State Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has replaced his Political Adviser, Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso, with Mustapha Bakwana, in a development that further underscores the shifting political dynamics in the state.
Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the director general media and publicity Kano state government house disclosed this in a post on his verified social media handle.
Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso, a close associate of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, had earlier tendered his resignation.

His exit followed Governor Yusuf’s recent defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), a move that has continued to generate ripples within Kano’s political circle.
The governor’s decision has been interpreted by political watchers as part of a broader effort to consolidate his political base following the defection, which has strained relations between his camp and key figures within the Kwankwasiyya movement.
The newly appointed Political Adviser, Mustapha Bakwana, previously served as political adviser to former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Bakwana had left Ganduje and the All Progressives Congress (APC) months ago to join the NNPP under the Kwankwasiyya political structure.
Observers say Bakwana’s appointment reflects ongoing realignments and strategic repositioning within the Yusuf administration as Kano State’s political landscape continues to evolve.
