At least 10 people were killed and dozens more injured after a powerful explosion ripped through a mosque on the outskirts of Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad.

Authorities said the blast occurred during Friday prayers at a mosque in the Tarlai area, where a large number of worshippers had gathered.

Rescue workers and police rushed to the scene, while ambulances transported the wounded to nearby hospitals.

Police officials said several of the injured were in critical condition, warning that the death toll could rise. Hospitals in the capital were placed on emergency alert to handle the influx of casualties.

Security forces cordoned off the area as investigators began collecting evidence to determine the nature of the explosion. Officials have not yet confirmed whether the blast was caused by a suicide bomber or an improvised explosive device.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Pakistan has faced a resurgence of militant violence in recent years, with places of worship and religious gatherings frequently targeted in deadly attacks.

Authorities said investigations were ongoing and urged the public to remain vigilant.
