Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has been granted temporary bail from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The release, approved on compassionate grounds, allows him to attend the funeral rites of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who died in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday, March 27, 2026.

El-Rufai has been in ICPC detention since February 18, 2026, over allegations of financial misconduct, money laundering, and related matters.

His son, Bashir El-Rufai, confirmed the development on X (formerly Twitter), describing his father’s detention as “unlawful and illegal” while thanking supporters. As of the report, the ICPC has not issued an official statement on the terms of the temporary release.

El-Rufai faces multiple ongoing legal cases, including charges at the Federal High Court in Kaduna (where his bail ruling is expected on March 31) and a separate DSS case scheduled for April 23 in Abuja.

He has also filed counter-suits seeking damages against the agencies involved.
