“NFSS Will Protect Kano’s Mineral Resources at All Cost” — Abdullahi Al’ameen

The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS) has declared its readiness to intensify efforts toward the protection of mineral deposits, forests, and natural resources across Kano State, amid growing concerns over illegal activities and environmental threats affecting resource-rich communities.

The State Commander of the NFSS, Abdullahi Al’ameen, made the declaration during a strategic visit to the Kano State Ministry of Mineral Resources, where discussions centered on strengthening collaboration and coordinated security operations aimed at safeguarding the state’s natural assets.

Speaking during the engagement, Abdullahi Al’ameen assured that the service would work tirelessly with the ministry and other security agencies to ensure effective protection of forests and mineral resources across Kano State.

“NFSS will protect Kano’s mineral resources at all cost. Our personnel will work closely with the Ministry of Mineral Resources and other relevant security agencies to secure Kano forests and protect the state’s natural resources from illegal activities and environmental threats,” he stated.

The commander explained that the visit was part of broader efforts to establish stronger institutional cooperation capable of addressing emerging security challenges surrounding mining communities and forest zones.

According to him, the collaboration will focus on: community-based security surveillance, Neighborhood patrols, emergency response support and operational synergy with agencies such as the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Officials disclosed that about 22 out of the 44 local government areas in Kano State, particularly rural communities, possess mineral resource deposits, making resource protection a strategic priority for the state government.

Security and environmental experts say the presence of these deposits presents opportunities for economic diversification and job creation but also requires stronger monitoring mechanisms to prevent exploitation and insecurity.

Responding during the visit, the Commissioner for Mineral Resources, Hamza Safiyanu Kachako, commended the commitment demonstrated by the NFSS toward protecting Kano’s natural resources.

“We appreciate the commitment shown by the Nigeria Forest Security Service toward safeguarding Kano State’s mineral resources and supporting government efforts aimed at protecting our environment and natural assets,” the commissioner said.

The Commissioner represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry stressed that effective protection of mineral resources requires cooperation among government institutions, local communities, and security agencies to prevent illegal exploitation and ensure sustainable resource management.

The growing collaboration between the Ministry of Mineral Resources and the NFSS signals a proactive step by the Kano State Government toward strengthening environmental security, improving surveillance of mining areas, and protecting valuable natural resources critical to the state’s economic future.
