The executive governor of Kano state Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has officially nominated his deputy, Murtala Sule Galadima Garo, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.
The nomination was announced on Monday during a strategic meeting with Federal Political Appointees of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu held at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s Director General, Media and Publicity, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, Governor Yusuf said the decision was based on Garo’s loyalty, commitment and dedication to the development of Kano State since assuming office as Deputy Governor.
The Governor expressed satisfaction with the working relationship between them, describing Garo as a competent and dependable partner who has demonstrated a high sense of responsibility in the discharge of his official duties.
“I have no regrets for choosing Garo as my Deputy in the last few months, and he has proven to be the right choice so far. I want to confirm to you that I have every confidence in him,” the Governor stated.
Governor Yusuf also passed a vote of confidence on the Deputy Governor, saying his contributions have strengthened the administration’s efforts to deliver meaningful development and improve governance across Kano State
He called on party leaders, political appointees and supporters to remain united and committed as the administration consolidates on its achievements while preparing for the 2027 general elections.
The formal endorsement of Garo as Governor Yusuf’s running mate is expected to provide early clarity on the leadership ticket of the ruling party in Kano State ahead of the next governorship election.
