Non Release of Funds Delays LG Elections in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission, (KBSEIC) says, non release of funds by the state government has delayed the conduct of the local government elections in the state.

The Chairman of the Commission, Aliyu Muhammad Mera, stated this when the leadership of the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) paid an advocacy visit to the commission in Birnin Kebbi.

Represented by the Commissioner One, Ahmed Adamu Sani, said the commission had writen the state government six months before the expiration tenue of the local government council but no responce from the government.

“Though we are Independent but don’t have the funds to conduct elections unlless the government provided and the government did not give funds to conduct local government elections”.

While commending IPAC for the visit to forward their complaint to the commission, the Chairman, solicited for their support and cooperation in finding ways for the government to conduct the local government elections.

The State Chairman of IPAC, Ibrahim Muhammad, said the visit to the commission was to forward there complaint of not executing their primary responsibility of conducting local government elections as the two years tenure of the elected council executives had expired.

He told the commission that, appointing sole administrators was unconstitutional and IPAC would accept that as legal action will be taking if the commission failed to conduct election on or before 5th of June 2024.
