Jigawa Governor Namadi Appoints Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani 17th Emir Of Gumel

Governor Umar A. Namadi of Jigawa State has approved the appointment of Dr Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani as the 17th Emir of Gumel.

The appointment followed recommendations by the Gumel Emirate Council Kingmakers and the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs.

The new Emir succeeds his late father, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr) Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, CON, who died on Thursday, September 3, 2026, after spending 46 years on the throne.

Until his appointment, Dr Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani held the traditional title of Chiroman Gumel and served as District Head of Bosuwa.

He also served as Director of Cyber Security at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), bringing both traditional and professional experience to the new position.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, Governor Namadi expressed profound appreciation to the Kingmakers of the Gumel Emirate Council, under the chairmanship of Wazirin Gumel, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Nasoro, for their role in the selection process.

The governor also appreciated the Emirs of Hadejia, Kazaure, Ringim and Dutse, who constitute the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs, for their fatherly advice and guidance during the process.

Governor Namadi, on behalf of the Jigawa State Government, congratulated the newly appointed Emir and wished him many years of successful service to the Gumel Emirate, Jigawa State and Nigeria.

The appointment brings to an end the succession process following the death of Emir Ahmed Muhammad Sani II and ushers in a new chapter in the history of the historic Gumel Emirate.
