The executive governor of Kano State Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has disclosed that more than 380 suspects have been arrested, while over 230 convictions have been secured, within two months of the state’s intensified campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Governor Yusuf made this known on Thursday in his address at the 66th Independence Anniversary celebration held at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, Kano.
Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Director General, Media and Publicity, Kano state Government House in a statement said the crackdown followed the establishment of the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in July 2026 and the issuance of an Executive Order aimed at strengthening the fight against illicit drugs, thuggery and related criminal activities.
According to the Governor, the task force has also dismantled drug joints and criminal hideouts across the state since its establishment.
He described the fight against drug abuse and criminality as a collective responsibility requiring the cooperation of government, security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, communities, parents and citizens.
Governor Yusuf particularly appealed to youths to reject drugs, violence and criminal activities and embrace education, agriculture, technology, entrepreneurship, vocational training and the creative industries.
He said his administration would continue to support security agencies, strengthen community-based intelligence and address social challenges contributing to crime and insecurity.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating a safer environment where young people can pursue lawful enterprises and contribute to the development of Kano State.
