NLC/TUC Mass Protest: Kebbi NLC Chairman, Deputy Shun Rally

The Kebbi State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Murtala Usman, and his Deputy, Comrade Kilani Abdulwaliyu, have been absent at the mass protest organized by the NLC/TUC on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi to express their concern about non-implementation of the 16 points agreement reached with the federal government against the current hardship experienced by Nigerians.

The protest conducted by various trade unions in the state was peaceful and under tight security but recorded a low turnout as a result of the current hardship by the people in the state.

Presenting a letter to the state Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar, NLC Vice Chairman, Comrade Aliyu Abubakar Udu, said, despite the widespread hunger in the country, inflation, the continued devaluation of the Naira, the salary remains static which makes the life of the citizens miserable and unable to feed.

Comrade Udu demanded that the Kebbi State Government should create more investment for additional job creation through industrialization of the state, immediate payment of wage awards to state and local government workers, and immediate payment of Local government staff withheld salaries by some former local government Chairmen for a period of la ong time.

Others are immediate approval and implementation of a 30,000 naira minimum wage circular, and the immediate release of additional palliatives to the people of the state to address the lingering hunger among others.

Responding, the State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar said to the Labour leaders that, the state would look into their grievances presented considering the state governor was a Labour leader and labor-friendly Governor.

He reassured the Labour unions that, the state government would do its best in finding a solution to the present hardship condition of the people in the state.

While commending the organized labor for the peaceful protest, the Deputy Governor said, the present hardship is all over the country and will be overcome soon.
