NAWOJ, UNICEF Celebrate International Women’s Day in Bauchi

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Bauchi state branch in collaboration with the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has organized a one-day workshop to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day.

The occasion which held at the State Library, American Space Bauchi guarded some adult Illiterate women to commemorate the day.

The chairperson of the association Mrs. Rashida Yusuf said they organized the event to support adult women who are left behind without education, by encouraging and sensitizing them on the importance of adult education.

Mrs. Yusuf cautions women not to be ashamed of not being educated at a younger age, saying that it is not too late for them to go back to school for the benefit of themselves and their wards.

She therefore called on the relevant stakeholders, NGOs, wealthy individuals, and philanthropists in the state and at the national level to support the association on its mission of protecting the lives of women and girl child, saying that such will help in reducing crimes and violence in the society at large.

On her part, the Director General of the sustainable development goals in the state Mrs. Lydia Shehu said, their main mission is to give women the voice to speak up, most especially those that don’t have the opportunity to be in school at an early age.

She therefore called on women in the state to make sure they enrolled themselves in schools and also adult classes to learn more, most especially entrepreneurship to be self-reliant.

During the work, stakeholders share writing materials, and textbooks with the participants.
