NLC’s Planned Strike Will Not Affects Our Scheduled Examinations — WAEC

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) says the planned strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) would not affect the earlier scheduled examinations across Nigeria.

WAEC in a letter to all principals across Nigeria and signed by branch controller T. A. Y. Lawson on behalf of head of National office said the examination which will be conducted in four west African countries should not be halted and that Nigerian students should not also be denied opportunity to sit for it.

According to the letter, as the examination body share concerns with NLC and TUC, and Nigerians in general, WAEC also urged supervisors, parents, and the general public to make adequate arrangement for their candidates to sit the exams.

The letter reads :”The attention of Management has been drawn to a noticed of the Commencement of
Indefinite Strike by NLC and TUC effective, Monday, 3rd June, 2024.

“Please be formally informed that the conduct of WASSCE SC 2024 goes on as scheduled on 31” May, 2024.

“In as much as we share the concerns of the unions and the generality of Nigerians, the WASSCE SC is going on across the member Countries of WAEC and the Nigerian Child should not be put to a disadvantage of missing the exam.

“For the aforesaid reason, WAEC will conduct the exam and School Principals, supervisors, parents and the general public should please take note and make
adequate arrangements for their candidates to sit the exam.

“Kindly be guided accordingly.
