Kano Govt. May Review Environmental Sanitation Law For Tricyclists Defaultion

The Kano state government says it may review the state Monthly Environmental Sanitation law due to frequent Defaultion of it by tricycle operators.

The state commissioner for environment and climate change Alhaji Nasiru Sule Garo disclosed this while briefing journalist shortly after last saturday’s Monthly environmental Sanitation exercise held in Kano.

Nasiru Garo represented by permanent secretary of the ministry Mahmoud Bello Bari said tricycle owners would be involved as well as invited to the ministry for stakeholders engagement and ensure that all state laws especially environmental sanitation were followed on due course.

“Its really disturbing that tricycle operators in Kano are violating environmental sanitation law, it really unbecoming, we are emphasizing that people should obey the law, it is just three hours for people to stay at home and clean their environment, but they refuse to stay, look at how this tricycles are moving around,” said Bari.

“We will employ all measures to stop this issues, we will sit down with tricycle owners, operators and ensure that this order is followed,” he said.

“To every law their is penalty, so we will sit down and review the law upwards especially with regards to fine so that anybody found wanting will be dealt with according full extent of the law,” the permanent secretary added.

He the called on the general public to contributes their quota in clearing all drainages especially during this raining season and complement government efforts in the ongoing state wide tree planting campaign exercise.

During the exercise, 35 defaulters were arrested by Mobile court attached to Kano state central sanitation committee for various offenses and fined the sum of 68,500 naira.
