Kano Govt. Okays 274 Million for Renovation of Hasiya Bayero, Tiga General Hospital, Construction of 50 Low-cost Housing

The Kano state executive council has approved the sum of N274 million naira for the renovation of Hasiya Bayero Paediatric hospital and Tiga general hospital in Bebeji local government area.

The council also approved the construction of 50 low-cost housing units across 36 local government area of the state.

Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the Kano state commissioner for information and internal affairs disclosed this while briefing journalist after the 33rd state executive council meeting presided over by the executive governor of the state Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Waiya described the decision as bold affirmation of the current administration led by Yusuf for transparency, sustainability and inclusive growth and development in the state.

According to him, education sector received a substantial allocation of ₦4.93 billion, earmarked for critical interventions including the renovation of Government Technical College, Ungogo, settlement of debts owed to boarding school feeding suppliers, and the completion of an E-Library at Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies.

He also said the Council also approved funds for instructional materials, accreditation exercises, and infrastructure upgrades at Northwest University and Kano State Polytechnic.

“Healthcare delivery was also prioritized, with ₦274 million approved for the renovation of Tiga General Hospital and Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital. “These upgrades are essential to improving access to quality healthcare, especially for children and rural communities,” the Commissioner noted.

He also explained that in the water resources sector, ₦3.33 billion was allocated to enhance water supply and energ&y management. “-This includes the construction of a new water treatment plant in Rano Local Government Area and settlement of utility debts for water treatment facilities.

The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure received the largest share, with ₦9.85 billion approved for road construction, flood control, and urban lighting projects. Notable among these is the construction of the Dambatta–Gwarabjawa Road and the installation of traffic lights and solar-powered streetlights across Kano Metropolis. “Infrastructure is the backbone of economic growth,” said Waiya.

Waiy further said “These projects will ease mobility, improve safety, and stimulate commerce.”

To boost energy sustainability, ₦979 million was approved for solar power installations at key government facilities, including Africa House and the Council Affairs Directorate.

The Council also adopted the Kano State Electricity Policy and approved the acquisition of majority shares in KEDCO, a move aimed at achieving energy sufficiency and fostering industrial growth.

Other approvals included ₦149 million for the 2026 Hajj Operations Budget, ₦126 million for the procurement of official vehicles, and ₦586 million for the construction of weighbridges at strategic entry points to the State.

In a landmark policy decision, the Council endorsed the construction of 50 low-cost housing units across the 36 Local Government Areas outside the metropolis. This initiative is designed to provide affordable housing for low-income earners and reduce the housing deficit in rural communities.

The meeting also celebrated the recent accolades bestowed upon Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who received seven national and international awards for his exemplary leadership.

These according to Comrade Waiya include the prestigious Gold Medal of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, the Zamka Award 2025, and recognition as the 4th Best Performing State on Climate Governance in Nigeria.

“These awards are a testament to the Governor’s unwavering dedication to service, innovation, and people-centered governance,” said Waiya. “They inspire us to do more for the people of Kano.”

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the continuous improvement of living standards across the State.

As Comrade Waiya concluded, “This administration remains resolute in its mission to build a prosperous Kano where every citizen has access to opportunity, dignity, and progress.”
