Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have disrupted a cross-border ammunition supply network, arresting a 25-year-old woman, Nafisa Usman, in possession of 200 rounds of live ammunition.

The suspect was apprehended at a major motor park in Kano shortly after allegedly transporting the ammunition from Nasarawa State, with the intention of delivering it to bandits in Kankara, Katsina State.

According to security sources, Usman, a native of Zango village in Kankara Local Government Area, was intercepted during a covert operation following credible intelligence.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the ammunition was sourced from Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, and transported to Unguwa Uku Motor Park in Kano for onward delivery to criminal elements operating in the Kankara forest.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to being involved in the illicit trade for about two months. She alleged that a man identified as “Teso,” whom she claimed works in collaboration with a soldier in Lafia, regularly supplied her with ammunition.

Usman further disclosed that she delivered the consignments to a suspected bandit leader, Mallam Haruna, believed to be operating within the Kankara axis. She added that she was introduced to the network by one Sulaiman, a livestock trader based in Kano.

The suspect also admitted to conducting transactions estimated at over ₦5 million, supplying ammunition not only to Haruna but also to other individuals identified as Buba and Abu, all allegedly active within the forest.

Expressing remorse, Usman reportedly said she regretted her involvement in the illegal trade, noting that her activities had now been uncovered.

A security official confirmed that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
