The Kano State Independent Students Consultative Forum has inaugurated its state executive council and unveiled the Abba Kabir Yusuf Students’ Ambassadors, with a strong pledge to mobilize students and youths in support of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The event, attended by students, youth leaders, education stakeholders, and political supporters, also served as a platform to highlight the Kano State Government’s investments in education and to condemn the recent wave of political violence in the state.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the Chairman of the forum, Abubakar Sa’ad, described the students’ ambassadorial initiative as a movement aimed at strengthening youth participation in governance, educational advocacy, and community development.

He assured that the forum would mobilize students and youths across Kano State to support Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration and re-election bid in 2027, arguing that the current government has demonstrated unprecedented commitment to educational transformation.

According to him, the administration has proven that sustainable development cannot be achieved without investing heavily in education and human capital.

“Recognizing that infrastructure means nothing without quality educators, the Kano State Government recruited over 20,000 qualified teachers and implemented a system for the timely provision of essential teaching materials,” he stated.

The student leader further highlighted several education projects and financial interventions approved by the Kano State Executive Council in 2025, amounting to over ₦5.5 billion.

He said the approvals covered strategic sectors of education, including the settlement of liabilities owed to the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS), renovation of Government Technical College Ungogo, support for boarding school feeding programmes, procurement of instructional materials, accreditation exercises at tertiary institutions, and completion of the e-library project at Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies.

He also commended the state government for merging the Ministry of Higher Education with the Ministry of Education in March 2026, describing the move as a strategic reform designed to eliminate duplication of responsibilities and improve policy coordination from primary to tertiary education.

Abubakar Sa’ad noted that the government’s reforms have strengthened accountability within schools through stricter monitoring of teacher punctuality and staff performance.

“These reforms show a government that understands that the future of Kano lies in education. Investment in teachers, infrastructure, learning materials, and technical institutions reflects a serious commitment to rebuilding the education sector,” he added.

Beyond education and politics, the forum used the occasion to strongly condemn the recent political violence in Kano State that reportedly claimed lives and heightened tensions in parts of the state.

The chairman warned against the growing culture of political thuggery, insisting that violence undermines democracy, education, and peaceful coexistence.

“We categorically debunk and condemn any politician, regardless of party affiliation, who is supporting or sponsoring thuggery in Kano State. Education cannot grow in an atmosphere of violence and fear,” he declared.

He stressed that Kano belongs to peaceful citizens committed to development and not to violent groups manipulated for political gains.

“Kano belongs to students, traders, farmers, and law-abiding citizens—not political thugs,” he said.

The forum also called on security agencies to investigate and prosecute sponsors of violence across the state without bias.

“We call on security agencies to investigate, arrest, and prosecute sponsors of violence without fear or favour,” he stated.

The inauguration is a reflection of the growing influence of student and youth groups in Kano’s political and educational landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.

The gathering ended with renewed calls for peaceful political engagement, expanded educational opportunities, and stronger youth involvement in governance and democratic processes across Kano State.
