The Jigawa State Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology has honoured three students of Mega School, Dutse, with awards and cash prizes after they secured fourth position in a national Information and Communication Technology (ICT) competition organised by the Federal Government.
Abdullahi Yakubu, the public relations officer of Jigawa State Ministry for Higher Education in a statement sent to GLOBAL TRACKER said the students distinguished themselves during the national ICT competition themed “Girl Child in ICT,” organised by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, where they competed against participants from across the country and emerged fourth among entries from 20 states.
Presenting the awards on behalf of the Commissioner for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Professor Isa Yusuf Chamo, the ministry’s Director of Administration and Finance, Mallam Rabbilu Rabiu, said the recognition reflects the Jigawa State Government’s commitment to promoting digital education and empowering young people, particularly the girl child.
He noted that the administration remains committed to supporting students through digital teaching and learning initiatives aimed at improving ICT skills, expanding access to quality education and preparing young people for opportunities in the digital economy.
According to him, the ministry will continue to encourage students to participate in extracurricular academic activities that enhance innovation, creativity and technological competence.
“The state government is determined to provide the necessary support for students, especially girls, to develop their communication technology skills and compete favourably at both national and international levels,” he said.
Earlier, the Director of Mega School, Dutse, Mallam Abdullahi Shehu, described the achievement as a source of pride not only for the school but for the entire state.
He attributed the success to the Jigawa State Government’s sustained investment in the education sector and the support provided by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology.
Speaking on behalf of the award recipients, Hauwa Kamilu Muazu expressed appreciation to the ministry and the school management for their encouragement and continuous support, pledging that the students would remain committed to academic excellence.
Also speaking, one of the parents who attended the ceremony, Hajiya Zainab Kabir, commended the ministry and the management of Mega School for their efforts in promoting girls’ education and creating opportunities for young female students to excel in science and technology.
As part of the awards, the three outstanding students—Khadija Kabir Buba, Hauwa Kamilu Muazu and Fatima Abdullahi—each received a laptop computer, a commemorative T-shirt and a cash prize of ₦50,000.
The school also received a desktop computer, a robotic car and commemorative T-shirts in recognition of its role in nurturing technological innovation and academic excellence among students.
The award ceremony underscores the Jigawa State Government’s continued drive to strengthen science, technology and innovation education while encouraging greater participation of girls in ICT and other technology-related fields.
