The Kano Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commissioned its refurbished office complex, with prominent media stakeholders commending the initiative as a boost to journalists’ welfare, professionalism and unity.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the Kano Press Centre, NUJ Secretariat, was chaired by former Kano State Commissioner for Information and former NUJ National President, Comrade Muhammad Garba, the event which was attended by journalists, media stakeholders and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the occasion, Garba, alongside Prof. Sule Ya’u Sule, Malam Habibu Kila, Hajiya Aishatu Sule and Abdullateef Abubakar Jos, commended the leadership of the chapel for renovating the facility.

They described the project as a significant development that would provide members with a more conducive environment for professional activities, meetings and engagements with stakeholders.
The dignitaries particularly praised the Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Murtala Adewale, and members of his executive committee for their commitment to improving the chapel and promoting the welfare of journalists.
They urged the leadership to sustain the momentum by introducing additional programmes aimed at strengthening the professional capacity, unity and welfare of members.
Adewale Explains Vision
In his remarks, Adewale said the refurbishment was part of his administration’s determination to transform the chapel’s office into a befitting and functional facility for journalists.
He explained that the initiative was motivated by the need to provide members with a conducive environment to hold meetings, engage stakeholders and attend to their professional responsibilities.
According to him, the project was achieved through careful planning, commitment and the support of individuals and stakeholders who shared the vision.
Adewale expressed appreciation to all those who contributed to the realisation of the project, describing the unveiling as another milestone in the history of the chapel.
He said the refurbished office would serve not only as an administrative facility but also as a centre for professional engagement, capacity building and strengthening relationships among members.
The chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to initiatives capable of improving the welfare and professional standing of members.
He stressed that a strong and united chapel remained essential to advancing the interests of journalists and strengthening the profession.
The commissioning formed part of the chapel’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its institutional structures and create an enabling environment for journalists to effectively discharge their responsibilities.
The Kano Correspondents’ Chapel is one of the recognised chapels under the NUJ Kano State Council.
Under Adewale’s leadership, the chapel has also pursued welfare and institutional initiatives, including the establishment of a cooperative society aimed at improving members’ financial stability and access to support.
The refurbished office is expected to provide members with an improved platform for professional interaction, meetings, capacity-building activities and engagement with relevant stakeholders in the media and wider society.
